Women’s month 2015

 

Every year, South Africans celebrate and commemorate the month of August as Women’s Month, in honour of the thousands of women representing all racial backgrounds, who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.

As we take the time to reflect and celebrate the achievements of women and their role in society this month, we must remember that this month is more than a celebration and recognition of past achievements by women in South Africa during the struggle for freedom, equality and justice, but a reminder, that we must continue to fight for the complete emancipation of women from all oppressions. Leaders such as Lilian Ngoyi, Bertha Mkhize and Charlotte Maxeke laid the foundation for women to be emancipated economically, socially and politically. uMfolozi Municipality has taken bold steps to economically develop and equip women within our Municipality and will never rest until women are fully empowered in all corners of their lives.
uMfolozi Municipality celebrates women during the month of August and every day of the year. Our nation will never reach its full potential if women are never given the platform to embrace their own potential. In line with national government, our policies put great emphasis on the full participation of women in the economy so that we can create an inclusive economy where women have equal opportunities.
Our Municipality encourages women empowerment and honours women such as our Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mathamsanqa Edna Ntshangase and all who reside in our communities.
