June 16th Youth Day 2017

uMfolozi Municipality Commemorates Youth Month The year of OR Tambo: advancing youth Economic Empowerment

As we celebrate Youth Day on June 16, we remember the school learners who raised their voices and stood up for the freedom to have equal education and fighting against the restraints of our education system based on racial divides.

Struggle icon Oliver Reginald Tambo said, “The children of any nation are its future, a country, a movement, a person that does not value its youth and its children does not deserve its future”. This year government is commemorating 41 years of the June 16th uprising. The theme for this year is “The year of OR Tambo: advancing youth Economic Empowerment.”

Our democratic government recognizes that quality education is a tool to empower our youth. Education empowers our children to step out of poverty and become leaders of our beautiful country. We remain committed to ensuring that the legacy of our youth remain forever entrenched in our history. Many young lives were sacrificed in order for us to be able to enjoy the benefits of non-racial and education system. The face that all South Africans and the world remember on this historic is that of Hector Pieterson.

uMfolozi Municipality is committed to uplifting the lives the youth and follows the National Development Plan guidelines; to equipping our young entrepreneurs thus advancing youth economic empowerment and ending poverty.
