uMfolozi Municipality Commemorates Human Rights Day

“Nelson Mandela Centenary 2018, Be the Legacy”

The annual commemoration of Human Rights Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the gains we have made, but more importantly, reflect on the work still needed to be done in-order to emancipate many communities in South Africa.

Many lives were lost during the Sharpeville Massacre of 21 March 1960 and we remember them this year as we celebrate Nelson Mandela Centenary, under the theme: The year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: promoting and deepening a human rights culture across society.

In remembrance of the values that were embodied by the late Nelson Mandela, I encourage all residents of uMfolozi to celebrate this holiday meaningfully.  This day also serves as a reminder to the municipality of uMfolozi to remain committed towards promoting an economically sound municipality that is aimed at empowering its people, protecting the environment and demonstrating good governance in leadership.

I wish all residents of uMfolozi and fellow South Africans at large, a Human Rights Day filled with hope and inspiration as we strive towards a better collective future.
