16 Days of Activism campaign awareness

Let’s rise against abuse of all gender

The uMfolozi Municipality together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) took the 16 Days of Activism campaign for No Violence Against Women and Children to the community of Nhlanzini, Ward 05 on 06 December 2014, in an effort to raise awareness about abuse and other social ills that are currently targeting the community at large.

Through meaningful partnerships like the partnership between SAPS, the Department of Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal and the public, united behind the theme: “Count me in”. Major Majola from KwaMbonambi Police Station said: “The activities during the 16 Days of Activism campaign are centred on empowering communities with the knowledge, the opportunity and the capacity to take a stand against abuse and encourage them through key motivators to break the cycle of abuse”.

He further stated that, “we, as a collective, challenge every person living in the KwaMbonambi area to ensure that safety starts in the family and it is important that we as the society observe 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children towards 365 days of action to eradicate violence from our communities”.

The municipality further encouraged all those who are living in fear and experiencing any kind of abuse to come forward and report any form of gender based violence so that community members stop falling victims of these crimes.
