2017 Matriculants Awarded by Municipality

uMfolozi Local Municipality held a Matric Awards Ceremony for the 2017 matriculants within the municipality. The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, 24 January 2018 at the uMfolozi Municipal Hall.

Under the theme “Celebrating Educational Excellence and Strengthening Quality and Participation in Education,” the awards aimed to celebrate the achievements made by 2017 matriculants as well as continue working hard in order to make themselves, as well as their families proud.

More than hundred deserving learners were awarded bursaries and certificates, while the top five high achieving schools were awarded for their commitment to producing quality education.

The top ten learners were awarded full bursaries and laptops to apply at any higher tertiary institution of their choice within South Africa. The remaining learners were awarded registration bursaries to help them kick-start their funding at tertiary level. The school principals received trophies, certificates and tablets.

uMfolozi Mayor Cllr Smanga Mgenge congratulated the learner’s achievement and encouraged them to never settle for less. He emphasised the importance of education. Mayor Mgenge encouraged the learners to never forget where they come from and focus on their education. His worship also urged the parents to support their children and guide them as they navigate university life.

The awarding ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Ms Nocawe Mafu who is deployed in the uMfolozi Municipality, uMfolozi Deputy Mayor Cllr SR Thabethe, His Worship Mayor Cllr SW Mgenge, School Principals, Circuit managers, Teachers, Dr VE Sikhosana from Department of Education, Acting Municipal Manager Mr. KE Gamede and Councillors.
