Every year, South Africans celebrate and commemorate the month of August as Women’s Month, in honour of the thousands of women representing all racial backgrounds, who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.
uMfolozi Municipality held a prize-giving ceremony for the different sports codes and artists who took part in the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Tournament at the uMfolozi Municipality Hall, the event was held on Friday, 31 July 2015.
The Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Tournament held at the KwaDondotha spotsfield in uMfolozi was a huge success. The three day sporting fiesta, which took place from 19 June – 21 June 2015, saw 16 soccer teams across the area of uThungulu District Municipality and eight schools teams in uMfolozi battle it out for the title of being called the champions in soccer, netball, Induku and Boxing.
uMfolozi Municipality Mayor honourable councillor Smanga Mgenge shared his dream to one day have a sport academy right in the door steps of Dondotha in KwaMthethwa. Speaking at the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Tournament which recently took place from 19-21 June 2015, Mayor Mgenge said he plans to include this vision in the Municipality’s next integrated development Plan.
Orlando Pirates player and Dondotha native in KwaMthethwa Siyabonga Sangweni says the three day sports tournament honoured in his name by uMfolozi Municipality from 19 -21 June 2015 has already produced quality players worthy to play in the Premier Soccer League.
Our approved Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget for the 2015/16 financial year was once again with the benefit of the people of uMfolozi in mind. We took extra care to make sure that our IDP is a key strategic planning tool which informs all our planning and budgeting process, driven by the needs of our community for us to achieve our ultimate vision of promoting an economical sound municipality with available infrastructure, empowering its people while demonstrating good governance in leadership.
According to the uMfolozi Municipality’s first plenary meeting for the Siyabonga Sangweni Sports Tournament which took place on Thursday 11 June 2015, everything is geared up for another successful tournament. In its third year the Siyabonga Sangweni Tournament has become a proud event for the Municipality and its citizens.
The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha officially handed over a fully equipped outdoor gym to the community of Slovo Township and a sports field to the community of Nzalabantu in KwaMbonambi on Sunday, 26 April 2015.
The aim of the new vehicles is to assist municipal employees do their work better and thus speed up service delivery.

The uMfolozi Municipality in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education and Richards Bay Mine (RBM) hosted the Mayoral Matric Excellence Awards on the 20 January 2015 at uMfolozi Municipality Hall.
As part of the Schools Functionality Monitoring Programme, Mayor Cllr S W Mgenge, councillors and municipal officials of the uMfolozi Municipality were deployed throughout the area of KwaMbonambi to assess the state of readiness in different schools for the beginning of the 2015 academic year.
